Topless racing tomorrow at Speedway

The Placerville Speedway goes totally topless … racing that is … for the annual “Totally Wingless Mania” at the foothill red clay bullring Saturday when the Wingless Sprint Cars of the United States Auto Club Western Classic Series come to town,  joined by the mighty Midgets of the Bay Cities Racing Association together with the Midget Lites.

Joining the three fire breathing open wheel divisions will be the colorful coupes of the Nor Cal Dwarf Car Association.

Championship point racing takes a break to allow for this exciting race program and resumes next week for its final weeks under the sponsorship of Red Hawk Casino, Hoosier Racing Tires and Coors Light.

Topping the roster Saturday is popular Fair Oaks lady racer Shauna Hogg who leads the point standings in the USAC Western Classic Sprint Car Series. Hogg is well-known at the likes of Placerville Speedway after she was one of the first female drivers, locally, to make her debut in sprint car racing in the late 80′s and 90′s.

During her stint in a winged sprint car, Hogg made many headlines in Saturday night competition at Placerville and was the first female to ever win a feature event when she bested the best of the west in an early era Civil War Series.

As they head into the coming weekend, Hogg leads the series point standings by 88 points over Tony Hunt after finishing sixth at Madera in their last event. Scott Pierovich is third in the USAC standings ahead of Brian McClish and Gorden Rogers.

Many drivers will do double duty Saturday and race both midgets and sprint cars. One such driver will include Galt’s Matt Streeter who won the wingless sprint car feature at Placerville last Saturday during a Hunt Magnetos event.

In addition to the racing action, the BCRA will be holding its annual Hall of Fame Picnic at the Fairgrounds. Additional information on tickets for this fun affair can be found at bcraracing.com.
