EL DORADO HILLS — Tanner Rosenbaum and Tyler Hersh shined Saturday afternoon for the Oak Ridge High lacrosse team, which fell to Amador Valley, 7-6.

Rosenbaum had a hat trick with his second and third goals within a minute of the other at the start of the third period. The third goal gave Oak Ridge (1-2-1) a 5-4 lead.

“Tanner has had a bit of problem of being too aggressive early,” said Oak Ridge head coach Chad Walden . “In this game, he was too conservative. I had a chat with him at halftime, and he lit it up. He did what he was supposed to do.”

Hersh recorded five saves, including three in the first period, and one each in the third and fourth periods.

“He really stepped it up,” said Walden of Hersh. “He played smart. He’s being a leader for us this year. He’s making adjustments on the fly.”

Oak Ridge appeared to tie with a minute left after Gage Webb fired a shot into the net but the referees overturned the goal, ruling Webb didn’t have his mouthpiece in when he scored.

“Sometimes those things happen,” Walden said.

After Rosenbaum gave his team the lead, Amador Valley scored a minute later to tie. Late in the period, Austin Hunter took an assist from Victor Bunce and put the ball into the goal from 10 yards to five Oak Ridge a 6-5 lead.

In the fourth period, Amador Valley scored its final two goals, the first one came with 7:18 left and the final one at 4:53. Defense was the theme for the rest of the game between Oak Ridge and Amador Valley.

“It was two evenly matched teams,” Walden said. “Everyone wants to win between the 30s. It was a great match.”

Josh Wellman scored the Trojans’ first two goals of the opening period, one on an assist from Rosenbaum.

Webb’s goal halfway through the second period gave the Trojans the lead but the Dons tied the game at 3-all and then took a 4-3 lead that carried over into halftime.
