EL DORADO HILLS — Logan Denholm’s RBI single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in Mickey Meinhofer as host and playoff-bound Oak Ridge posted the 7-6 walkoff Senior Day victory over Jesuit Tuesday.
Meinhofer had reached on an inning-opening dropped line drive to right field. After Tyson Solis sacrificed and Tanner Ales walked, Denholm (3-for-4) delivered a hit up the middle to plate Meinhofer.
“I’m really glad I got that hit. He’s (Jesuit pitcher) a great pitcher and we’re really good friends,” Denholm said.
The Trojan’s win came a day after a disappointing 4-3 loss to the Marauders Monday.
“We beat ourselves yesterday and that was a real disappointment. It’s a real testiment to the team to bounce back,” Oak Ridge coach Todd Melton said. “Our relief pitching really kept us in it.”
Oak Ridge climbed out of a 5-0 hole against Jesuit starter Tanner Dodson, all with two out in the third inning. Brogan Cooper and Solis reached around a walk to Meinhofer on infield hits before Ales’ ball was booted to score Cooper. Meinhofer crossed on a pitch to the backstop and after Denholm walked, Kyle Barisone (2-for-4) picked up an RBI on an infield hit.
Back in at 5-3, Erik McNeill found the gap in right-center to tie the score.
The Marauders cut down a run at the plate in the fourth but Ales’ two-out single to score Meinhofer gave Troy the lead. Jesuit answered in the fifth on Andy Snow’s two-out RBI single and it stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth.
Kyle Stephens, Kyle Lucke, Cooper, Connor Davis and Ryan Sullivan pitched for Oak Ridge while Dodson went the whole way for the Marauders.
After the game Oak Ridge honored seniors Austin Root, Meinhofer, Ales, Jon Seim, Barisone, Cooper, Stephens and Austin Vail.
