Jaclyn and Abyah Fields, members of the Cameron Park Tigers Wrestling Club, competed in the 13th annual California USGWA Girls Wrestling State Championships March 27 at Mt. Pleasant High School in  San Jose.
Abyah, a fifth-grader at Green Valley Elementary, won the championship in the elementary 105-pound division after pinning Cheryl Jimenez of San Jose 1:25 into the first period.
Jaclyn took second in the Middle School Division’s 155-pound bracket, defeated in the third period of the championship match by Nicole Diaz of Brentwood.
Abyah has been wrestling for two years; she started wrestling for Pleasant Grove Middle and currently wrestles for the Cameron Park Tigers. Early last season she fractured her collar bone but she battled back this year.
She and Jaclyn train together six days a week. Abyah took second at the USGWA NorCal Championships March 6 in Vallejo.
Jaclyn, an eighth-grader at Pleasant Grove, is in her first full season of wrestling. Over the season Jaclyn has improved match by match. She’s called the “nicest mean girl” on the mat by her teammates and enjoys coaching her sister mat-side.
Jaclyn finished second in the NorCal Championships.
The sisters are now gearing up for their next tournament, the seventh annual Middle School Championships in Vallejo April 8, and they then plan to compete in the West Coast Nationals.
