Sacramento Orthodontist Vic Vicari, 53, a Ponderosa alumni, won his fifth straight Ironman title at last month’s 40th Eppies’ Great Race. Vicari, in winning for the eighth time, posted a time of 1:44.34. His other victories came in 2002, 2003 and 2005. The 5.82 mile run, 12.5 mile bike and 6.35 mile paddle triathlon competition is held each year in the American River Parkway, Rancho Cordova and Sacramento areas.

Ponderosa golfer Corey Pereira had a busy summer at various tournaments around the United States. Recently, he helped Northern California to a four-stroke win at the 36-hole Hogan Cup in Portland, Ore. where he shot a team low and was second lowest for the tournament. In West Palm Beach Fla. at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships, Pereira took second from a field of 150. In between, Pereira played on the winning North team at the North/South Team Matches in Fresno and was fourth in Fresno at the California Junior Amateur Tournament.

Irv Rios aced Apple Mountain Golf Resort’s 4th hole using a No. 7 club from 121 yards out. Witnesses were Dave Johnson, Jack MacDonald and Scott Goodwin.
