Former Oak Ridge pitcher Jordan Mills earned All-West Coast Conference first-team honors after his junior season at St. Mary’s in Moraga. Mills went 2-2 in WCC starts with a 2.10 ERA. He struck out 45 and held opponents to a .234 batting average. Mills, a lefthander watched by scouts throughout the year, is projected to be drafted in next month’s MLB draft.

Golden Sierra’s Bryson Campbell finished with a .561 batting average to break the school record held by Tyler Waldron, now a pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ organization. Campbell’s average was ninth-best in the section; second-best for Division VI players; and best in the Sierra Delta League. Campbell is also a selection to the Optimist All-Star game. Note: The Democrat will publish the complete list of area Optimist All Stars once that information is known.

Ponderosa senior golfer Makenzie Shivers received the Morton Golf Foundation/Powerbilt Scholarship. The award was presented at the Golf and Guitars Music Festival at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento. Shivers will attend Park University in Missouri in the fall where she was recruited to play golf.

Fun fact; Before they coached against one another in the Sierra Valley Conference, Ponderosa pole vault coach Don Aguiar was an assistant coach (1989-91) for El Dorado track and field head coachPeanut Harms at Foothill College in Los Altos.
