EL DORADO HILLS — Though rain, wind and more rain put a damper on Monday’s CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I North Girls Golf Tournament at Serrano Country Club, it didn’t deny Oak Ridge High’s Beomyun Han.
Han, one of three Trojans in the individual field, carded a 90 under tough conditions — good enough to make the cut for to advance to next week’s Masters Tournament at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.
Other Oak Ridge scores were Carolyn Almeida with a 97 and Shivani Sharma with a 116.
Ponderosa also had three golfers compete. Makenzie Shivers turned in a 97; Sabrina Piatt had a 98 and Emily Olander a 101.
Team-wise, the Delta River League fared well with its top teams, St. Francis and Pleasant Grove, finishing 1-2. Rocklin and Granite Bay also advanced.
Bad weather also took its toll at Elkhorn Golf Club in Stockton for the Division IV tournament featuring Sierra Valley Conference champion Union Mine and El Dorado’s Kaitlyn Strahlendorf.
The Lady Diamondbacks shot 609 as a team, their season best, and good for third place out of the eight team field. East Union, with a score of 484, advanced to Masters as the division sent just one team, putting an end to Union Mine’s stellar season.
Carding 110s, Megan Sturgeon and Kinsey Del Rio led the D’back effort. Trisha Tolbert shot a 114; Marilyn Dunne a 135; Maleah Denault, 140, and Sarah Bence a 152. Strahlendorf carded a 119 that bettered 47 players in the field and 5-of-6 Vista del Lago golfers.
“I’m very proud of everything they’ve accomplished this year. These girl’s have worked as hard as any team I’ve coached in the past,” Union Mine coach Chad McGowan said.
