BALTIMORE – US Lacrosse recently announced the first of three groups of high school boys’ lacrosse players named a US Lacrosse High School All-American, All-Academic honoree or a Bob Scott Award winner.

In all, nearly 80 players were recognized for their efforts on and off the field, including Oak Ridge junior Josh Wellman, one of 49 All Americans selected.

Additionally, 24 All-Academic honorees and five Bob Scott Award winners were also picked from the Alabama/Mississippi, Arizona, California-Sacramento, Connecticut-Fairchester AA, Florida-Central, Florida-North, Nevada, New York-NYSAIS-IVY, North Carolina-East, South Carolina and Texas areas of US Lacrosse.

US Lacrosse uses a calendar-based recognition process to accommodate for the different time frames of high school lacrosse seasons across the country. The second and third boys’ groups will be announced later in June and beginning of July, respectively.

A US Lacrosse All-American is a player who exhibits superior skills and techniques, possesses exceptional game sense and knowledge and is one of the best players in the United States, while also embodying excellent sportsmanship.

Wellman’s positions for the Trojans were midfield and attacker. Oak Ridge finished 11-6 overall and went 8-4 in the Sacramento Valley League.

A key player for the Trojan football team, look for Wellman, last year’s Junior Male Athlete of the Year, to contribute both offensively and defensively next fall as Oak Ridge eyes a return to the Sac-Joaquin section title game.
