Haven closing

By From page A5 | November 20, 2013

EDITOR:

It is very interesting there are no letters to the editor when 24 homeless people are uprooted from a safe haven that is not costing the city of Placerville or the county a dime; or is the editor sorting them out? Are we such an uncaring population that we can approve millions for an animal shelter but cannot find a few hundred thousand to provide a shelter for those of us who are less fortunate than others?

Don’t get me wrong, I was raised on a ranch and know the need to take care of our pets and animals, but to neglect and put on the street, our human souls that are so desperate for shelter and help up to get back on their feet, especially as we about to enter the cold, bitter winter months …

I just read that the Boys and Girls Club will be moving out of the former National Guard Armory; could that be a solution as a services and homeless shelter, albeit in 2015? Sometimes, I think people forget that many of us are only one paycheck from the street. Think about it.
