Classroom of the Virgo Moon

Like schoolchildren assessing the new teacher, the sun, Venus and Mars hang close together as they check out Saturn from across the sky. Will Saturn be a strict taskmaster or a fun and friendly adviser? In the classroom of the Virgo moon, the teacher will base his lessons and approach on the abilities, attitudes and receptivity of his students.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You have an ease with your surroundings that is very attractive, especially to those who are not sure how to navigate the terrain. This coupled with your friendly attitude will lead you to make interesting social connections.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You’ll dedicate yourself to a project. The tips you’ll hear are valuable, but they are not the be-all-end-all secret to success. There is no one answer. The real secret is to apply what you learn.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Your sign mate Walt Whitman suggested, “If anything is sacred, the human body is sacred.” You’ll treat it as such, being attentive to its needs, listening to what it wants and doing what feels natural.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). People feel gratitude for what you’ve done, but because of social awkwardness or other pressing reasons, they will have trouble expressing thanks. Be confident in the knowledge that you have made a difference.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). No one is ready-made; we are all works in progress. Since you’re the one who has to do the work, you may as well be the one who decides what end result you are going for.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). It is costly to try different tactics, even if the experiments themselves are inexpensive. Your time is the most valuable asset you have. A consultant who has been there is definitely worth the investment.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). There will be much to accomplish, so arrange your schedule to take advantage of peak productivity times. You can move more quickly when you are well rested. You’ll be prolific when your energy is high.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). In case you are still wondering how you come across to others, you can relax in the knowledge that people really like you. Why wouldn’t they? You’re sweet enough to be desirable and bitter enough to be interesting.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Because you really care, you think of ideas that might be helpful to your loved ones and present them without expectation of reward. Even if none of your ideas get used, people feel loved because you do this.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Business is often like a race: Those who take the swiftest action make the most money. Your gut will tell you you’re on to something, so follow through without hesitation.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). The beauty of having another person close by who loves you very much is not lost on you. Whether it’s your close kin or a sweetheart, today there is nothing better than accepting that affection and basking in it.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You need both your left and right brain strengths in order to complete today’s tasks. If either side gains too much control, you will mentally fly in circles. Balance is key.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (April 22). Next month, a shift in your atmosphere will have you forming a new team you can depend on. A window of romance also opens in May. Your social standing will be elevated without your participation, and you’ll turn the surge in popularity into good times. July and November are the luckiest times to travel. Aquarius and Virgo people adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 6, 46, 31, 3 and 35.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTIONS: “Help. I’m a Capricorn in the precarious position of taking care of my aging mother and my two 30-something stepchildren, too. Months away from retiring, I have long been looking forward to this period of my life when I get to stop working so hard, see some of the world and generally enjoy myself, but it’s not turning out that way at all. Was I selfish or deluded to want such things? If I can’t catch a break at 65, when will I ever get a break?”

Though it is now estimated that 10,000 people a day turn 65, the fact that you are not alone in the plight of the “sandwich generation” probably does little to reduce the accumulative stress of taking care of elderly parents and grown children. The good news is that Capricorns like you thrive on challenges once you accept them. There is a way to enjoy yourself and still shoulder the burden of familial responsibility. The first step is in accepting that this is what is. The fantasy you had about retirement wasn’t a complete dream, but it’s not your reality now, either. Instead of wishing it were different, adopt the new “job” of coming up with solutions for the current state. Trade in the role of “victim” for the role of “experimental scientist.”

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Those born under the sign of the bull are renowned for their stubborn streaks, but this quality also translates into tenacity, nonconformity and iconoclastic style. Actor Jack Nicholson is a perfect example, known for taking on the world exclusively on his own terms. “I’m not good with being told,” Nicholson admitted, like a classic Taurus. “I just immediately start resisting the situation.”
