Waning Aries Moon

Mature folks won’t see today’s tasks as ominous, and yet they probably won’t seem too exciting, either. The waning Aries moon will push the reluctant day along like a mother pushing her child to practice the piano, do homework or eat vegetables. One good idea is all it takes to shift perceptions. Find the “sugar” that helps the “medicine go down.”

ARIES (March 21-April 19). The problem may seem larger than life today, but the answer is about as small as life can get. Focus on the one step you can take in the moment to move yourself forward.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Stamina is one of your natural gifts, but you still have to do a bit of planning to get to the end of a race. You’ll plot out milestones that will keep you accountable and motivated along the way.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You usually do not try to gain control over others until it is obvious that someone is spinning out and can use the redirection. Your leadership will be wanted and needed this afternoon.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Everyone just wants to feel better, including you. You’re in a good place, so you’re willing to do the hard work that will make this happen instead of going for a quick fix.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). It’s your instinct to use the element of surprise to entertain others. You’ll reply to the usual questions in unusual ways. In your book, it’s a sin to be generic and boring.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). When you have a lot on your mind, as you do right now, you appreciate the kind of sensitive and bright people who tend toward brief interactions that get right to the point.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Morality can seem complex, but here’s a simple truth: There is a difference between wanting to do what’s right and being afraid of the repercussions that could happen if you do what’s wrong.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Have you ever forgotten a password? The business of creating codes can be tricky. The answers that seem perfectly obvious in the moment may prove difficult to recall. All is saved by writing things down.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Your self-definition is constantly changing these days. Because you crave expansion and are forever growing your knowledge and influence, challenge is essential to your happiness.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You’ve walked the fine line between determination and obsession before, so you’re familiar with today’s ultra-focused state of mind. Frequent breaks will help you maintain a healthy perspective.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Your overactive sense of duty may have you working on projects that are not likely to forward your own interests directly or immediately, but you’ll never regret fulfilling your obligations.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You can’t decide where you want to live today. You’ll bounce between Earth and ethereal realms of thought and feeling. All of this movement is highly creative. Record what you come up with.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (May 6). You’ll form your own theories from the rushing stream of information and ideas that flows your way this month. Experiment in June. A breakthrough in the early stages will be followed by a new source of funding that opens up in July. Someone who appeals to your tender heart will win your loyalty in September. Aries and Sagittarius people adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 9, 50, 36, 28 and 16.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTIONS: “I was re-watching a sequence in the 2009 Disney movie “Up,” and it gets me every time. I’m a Cancer, and I don’t want to write any spoilers, but let’s just say I cry and cry. I know you’ve written about this before. It’s just not fair that some people seem destined to nurture others and do not get the chance to go on their own adventures, and those people are disproportionately women. Will I ever have the chance to experience the world the way I wanted to when I was a child?”

Cancer is the sign of maternal energy, and your sign often finds the experience of love in any form to be as all-encompassing as a mother’s love for a child. Your natural instinct is to nurture, encourage and be there for your loved ones. Going on your own adventures can definitely seem like a conflict of interest when you’re busy tending to the needs of those close to you. And like the character of Ellie in “Up,” you find adventure in the closeness of your bonds that rivals the need to venture out into the big world. But this doesn’t have to be an either/or scenario. There’s a way to explore and still take care of your people. So don’t cast yourself as the martyr. Be hopeful, and new solutions will come to you.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: This Oscar winner’s name has become synonymous with sexy sophistication. George Clooney is a Taurus who was born when Mars and Uranus were in Leo, the sign of entertainment. Venus in high-energy Aries suggests an enthusiasm for change. His moon in altruistic Aquarius brings a desire to help others and to better society. Look for Clooney in the upcoming sci-fi thriller “Gravity.”
