Autumnal Equinox

When the night and day divide into equal parts, it’s that magical time of the year celebrated by cultures ancient and modern, the autumnal equinox. The pagan name for the fall equinox celebration is called Mabon. The Druids celebrate with the festival of Alban Elfed, and other harvest festivals abound across the globe in the weeks to come. Happy equinox!

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Here’s one rule that will protect your time and happiness: Don’t give unsolicited advice. Share your expertise with those who ask or pay for it. They’re the ones who will value it.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). If you obsess and overanalyze, you will become tired before you’ve handled all of your work. If you start to feel anxious, shift your focus to the things that help you access your inner peace.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Of course doing the same things will produce the same results. The change you desire will begin because of a choice you make to try something unfamiliar.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Conforming to the rules of a culture is sometimes necessary to survive, fit in, influence others and more. But conforming all the time is soul-crushing. You need your moments of rebellion, too.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Everyone experiences things differently. But today, your experience will be completely different from that of others around you because your sensitivity causes you to feel things with great intensity.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You’ll be inspired by the people you meet and the stories you hear. Listening to others and mirroring their feelings and memories creates a great sense of satisfaction.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You are a comfortable person because you accept yourself and try not to judge anyone, including yourself, too harshly. Today you have a way of bringing out a side of people that they hide around others.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Does energy that is directed at people really make a difference in what happens to them and how they feel? You do your fair share of sending out good vibes just in case.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Lay down boundaries to help you avoid having another one of those conversations in which someone else feels better after sharing their feelings and pain with you, but you feel worse.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). It’s strange how being around certain people can cause you to act out of character. You may find this liberating now, as it’s fun not to know exactly what someone is going to do next, especially if that someone is you.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). The bear who craves honey strongly enough is willing to risk it with the bees. You’re cleverer, though. You’ll stand by and watch until you figure out how honey can be had with the least chance of getting stung.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). A new opportunity is masquerading as the same-old same-old. Once you give it a familiar label, you won’t be able to see its potential. So observe more closely. What’s different?

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 22). You’re always watching out for a chance to make someone smile. You’ll seek and find romance in October. November brings the end of a battle. In December, decisions fall in your favor, benefiting your professional status. You’ll track down a long-lost friend in 2014. Rekindling the tie has long-term benefits. Pisces and Leo people adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 36, 24, 13, 20 and 48.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: The solar return to Libra is the time of year when we celebrate the harvest both metaphorically and, in the Northern hemisphere, actually. This year the equinox happens under an appetite-stimulating Taurus moon, and so our appreciation of the culinary bounty of the season will be strong. As far as the spiritual component that accompanies the solar return to Libra, it will take a few days to kick in, as we are so busy with a new crop of fresh business that many will forget to slow down for a soul check-in. But on Wednesday, as the sun forms an introspective angle to dreamy Neptune in Pisces, the mental cogs begin to turn with questions like: Is it always true that you reap what you sow? I don’t remember planting the seeds for some of these things that exist in my life.

As gardeners and farmers well know, many seeds look alike. Also, weeds sprout. The important part is to be grateful for what has come, the good and the bad, and to do our best to manage it. You can always “plant” differently next time if you don’t get the desired result.

A square of Mars and Venus at the end of the week highlights gender differences. Trying to understand the opposite sex will require extra patience.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Tom Felton has successfully branched out from the villainous role of Draco Malfoy in eight Harry Potter films, and his credits are no longer dominated by the wizard world, though the actor’s fondness for his Potter family remains. Felton was born on the cusp of Virgo and Libra. He is a Virgo with significant planetary influences in both signs: three luminaries in Virgo and two in Libra.
