Oak Ridge graduate Amjed Aboukhadijeh, 19, took first in his age class (males ages 1-19)  in the 29th annual California International Marathon Dec. 4.

Thousands of local and international athletes hit the road in the 35-degree plus weather, including Aboukhadijeh, who ran a 5:59 minutes per mile pace and finished in two 2 hours, 36.23 minutes.

Aboukhadijeh, who is currently running on scholarship for UCLA, completed the marathon last year as a guide for visually impaired Folsom althlete, Richard Hunter. Hunter recently competed in his first Ironman in Florida.

El Dorado entered a relay team that included seniors Spencer Wright and Nathan Rossi, and sophomores Ryan Gray and Tyler Rossi. The boys took fourth in the field of 1,000 teams and third in the high school bracket.

El Dorado prinicpal Matt Barnes beat the average course finish time of 4:13, crossing the line in 3:01.23. His students were at the finish to congratulate him.

Another top finisher in his age group was Diamond Springs' John O'Neill, 70, who took fourth in 4;05.13.
