It all began with one man and his propane truck.

Gene Tabb started Golden State Propane in 1994. In 1996 he teamed up with Jeff Huntsinger and they have since grown their business to serve 1,700 customers along the Highway 50 corridor.

Tabb and Huntsinger, both 60 and residents of El Dorado Hills, first met at a building project for their church, the Church of the Foothills. That blossomed into not only a great business relationship but a long-lasting friendship as well. When these two aren’t on the road delivering propane you’ll find them cruising side by side from Oregon to Southern California on their Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

It may be hot in summer — especially in Southern California, but it’s no time to forget about winter. At Golden State Propane customers have the advantage of purchasing propane in advance of winter during summer at a lower price. Propane is also about 25 percent cheaper than electricity. “The pre-pay program is smart. Your gas is already paid for so when winter comes you’ll have plenty of money to buy Christmas presents,” Huntsinger said.

The staff also prides itself on knowing their customers on a first-name basis.

“Customers want to be able to know the people they do business with. They want to know their driver,” Tabb said, listing the loyal and friendly staff that includes secretary Lori Enea and drivers Bob Yates, Paul Strand, Andrew Miles and Eric Taylor.

They also offer 24-hour emergency service and tank installation. With fast-response to their client’s needs, competitive pricing and good customer discounts, Golden State has earned a the reputation that wins new business just from word-of-mouth recommendations.

Just want someone to keep your propane tank full all of the time? They keep track of customer usage to make sure you never run out.

For more information call 530-677-2119 or stop by their office at 4326 Business Drive in Cameron Park.
